What we collect. For families enrolled with us we hold the student's name and grade, the classes they attend, the work they submit through our student portal, and contact details for the parent or guardian: an email address, and a mobile number only if you choose to give us one.
Why we hold it. To teach the classes you have enrolled in, to give your child access to their own work, to invoice you, and to tell you about your classes.
Text messages. Giving us a mobile number is optional and separate from everything else. You give permission on the Notifications screen of your own account, by ticking a box that is never ticked in advance. We record the permission, the exact wording shown to you, the date, and where it was given. We do not text a number that has no recorded permission.
Mobile numbers collected for SMS consent will not be sold, rented, or shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. No mobile information is shared with third parties for their own marketing.
Withdrawing permission. Reply STOP to any message, or turn it off on the same Notifications screen. Either takes effect immediately. Reply HELP for help, or call us on (510) 912-1212.
Who else sees your information. We use service providers to run the school: a payment processor for invoices, an email provider, and a messaging provider to deliver texts. They act on our instructions and only for these purposes. We do not sell personal information. We disclose information otherwise only where the law requires it.
How long we keep it. For as long as your family is enrolled, and afterwards for as long as we need it for tax and business records. Records of text permission are kept as a permanent log, because we have to be able to show what was agreed and when.
Children. Accounts for students under 13 are created at the request of a parent or guardian who is enrolling them. Text messages go to parents and guardians, not to students.
