Helping Thornton Students Turn Effort Into Progress
Sometimes students work hard, complete their assignments, and spend hours studying, yet their grades don't reflect the effort they're putting in. Other students do well on homework but struggle when it's time to explain what they've learned on a test or in a written assignment.
For families with children attending Thornton Middle School in Fremont, these challenges can become more noticeable as students move through sixth, seventh, and eighth grade.
Simon Academics helps students identify what's holding them back and develop the skills to move forward. Whether the difficulty is writing a well-organized essay, understanding what they've read, working through a math problem, or managing several assignments at once, our teachers provide clear instruction and constructive feedback.
We believe students make the most meaningful progress when they understand why something works, rather than simply memorizing enough to get through the next test.
Learning to Write With Purpose and Clarity
A student can have an excellent imagination and plenty of good ideas but still struggle to express those thoughts on paper. Writing requires several skills working together, including planning, organization, vocabulary, grammar, and the ability to explain an idea clearly.
At Simon Academics, writing is one of our specialties. Our writing classes in Fremont give students opportunities to explore different forms of writing, from persuasive essays and personal narratives to literary responses and creative assignments.
Rather than simply correcting mistakes, our instructors explain why changes improve the writing. Students receive feedback, learn to recognize weaknesses in their own work, and practice making thoughtful revisions.
For Thornton students, developing these abilities now can make a meaningful difference as writing assignments become more complex in high school.
Better Reading Starts With Understanding
Have you ever asked your child what they just read, only to hear, "I don't know"?
It's surprisingly common. Some students can read an entire chapter without fully understanding the ideas, relationships, or arguments being presented. They may recognize every word but still miss the meaning behind the text.
Our reading classes help students become more thoughtful readers. Through guided reading, discussion, vocabulary development, and questions that encourage deeper thinking, students learn to recognize important details and make connections between ideas.
These skills carry over into other subjects as well. Stronger reading comprehension makes it easier to interpret word problems, understand science material, follow written instructions, and respond thoughtfully to classroom assignments.
Math Help That Goes Beyond Getting the Right Answer
One of the frustrating things about math is how quickly a small misunderstanding can turn into a larger problem. A student might struggle with fractions or negative numbers, only to discover that those same concepts are essential for solving equations later.
Simply practicing more problems doesn't always solve the issue.
Simon Academics offers individual math tutoring that focuses on understanding the concepts behind the calculations. Our tutors work with students to find gaps in their knowledge, explain unfamiliar ideas, and practice applying what they've learned to new problems.
For Thornton Middle School students, this can mean revisiting an earlier concept, working through pre-algebra or algebra, or learning how to approach multi-step problems without becoming overwhelmed.
The objective is to help students develop the reasoning skills they need to become more capable, independent problem-solvers.
From Middle School Routines to High School Independence
By eighth grade, students are expected to take greater responsibility for their education. Teachers may provide instructions and deadlines, but students must increasingly decide how to manage their time, prepare for tests, and complete assignments independently.
For some children, that independence comes naturally. Others need additional guidance.
Our instructors encourage students to become more active participants in their education. That means learning to recognize when they don't understand something, asking useful questions, thinking critically about their work, and taking responsibility for making improvements.
These habits become especially important as students prepare for high school, where classes move faster and expectations are higher.
Parents don't have to wait until grades begin slipping to seek additional academic support. Middle school can be an ideal time to strengthen a student's foundation while there is still room to develop better learning habits.
Academic Support for Families in North Fremont
Thornton Middle School serves families in Fremont's northern communities. Simon Academics welcomes students from Thornton and other Fremont schools to our tutoring center at 40979 Fremont Boulevard.
With small-group writing and reading classes as well as private instruction, we work with families to identify an approach that fits their child's academic needs.
Some children benefit from the interaction and discussion that come with learning in a small group. Others make better progress with individual attention, particularly when they need help with a specific subject or have fallen behind.

Simon Academics offers writing and reading classes designed for different grade levels, including classes aimed at students in grades 7 through 9.
That means students approaching the end of middle school can work on skills that will continue to matter during their freshman year of high school.
And writing instruction isn't limited to completing essays. Students also practice analyzing ideas, evaluating information, developing arguments, and communicating their thoughts effectively. Those abilities become increasingly valuable as they advance through high school and eventually college.

Let's Talk About Your Child's Academic Goals
Whether you're looking for help with writing, reading, math, or test preparation, we're here to help. Tell us a little about your child's needs, and we'll be happy to discuss the programs and tutoring options available at Simon Academics.
Simon Academics provides immensely useful personal 1on 1 tutoring for our family. We have now had 3 kids go through their services from Jr. High up through High School in a number of academic subjects (also had 2 daughters take Remote SAT boot camps which helped them prepare for the way intense testing can work). We have used them for several years and always gotten good results, even though our kids all learn and approach studies a bit differently.
Most recently Mr. Liang has been instrumental in clarifying things for my son (our youngest) as he had to dig himself out of a C- in Math, and claw his way back brick by brick to an B+. If you have kids who have a tendency to let themselves slide and don't want to talk to you for help (or their math is now just beyond your memory like me) ... Simon Academics is an excellent choice.
Truly, I am thankful to have found them. Personally, it is a load less stress to let a good tutor handle questions the kids are accumulating and feeling overwhelmed, then watch your child get frustrated, give up, or act out. We very much recommend these folks.
